This is a Lesson Plan covering the introductory course on how to use the AppShed platform to teach app building.

Learning Objectives:

  • All learners will be able to create and publish a simple app using AppShed.
  • Most learners will be able to conceptualise their own app and build it using AppShed.
  • Some learners will be exploring some of the more advanced features available within AppShed.
Blockly

Similar to the Scratch interface, Blockly allows the learner to build their code up using blocks to generate custom actions and small programs. Anything is possible using Blockly code – from creating simple navigation actions to more complex and logical programming code.

CSS and Styling

CSS and Styling

A useful skill to make apps stand out. Styling apps using the built-in Style menu is a simple and quick way to change the look and feel of apps. This Lesson Plan will also allow room for progression as more complex styling can be accomplished with the use of CSS.

JavaScript and app.js

app.js is a JavaScript library that provides programmatic control of an AppShed app. This lesson aims to bring learners up to speed with the ever-changing nature of programming. App.js can also be used to integrate apps with IoT & robotics (Arduino/Raspberry Pi), suitable for classroom or robotics clubs.
